'Poker Face,' filmed in Mid Hudson starring Lyonne, debuts in January; watch the trailer

Mid Hudson residents will not have to wait much longer to see themselves on Peacock.

They’ll have to keep waiting to see themselves on HBO, though.

On Jan. 26 “Poker Face,” the Natasha Lyonne-starring mystery series that filmed around the region for the better part of this year, will debut on NBC’s Peacock streaming service, according to a trailer released this week.

However, the wait for “The White House Plumbers,” the historical dramedy limited series that filmed around the region for the better part of 2021, will continue on to next year, according to a promotional reel HBO recently released. No release date has yet been announced.

The series are two of several that have helped the film industry locally continue growing over the past two years.

The news of “Poker Face’s” release in roughly three months sparked online excitement, with many who snagged a role as an extra or job otherwise associated with the production eager to post about their experience on social media.

According to the Hudson Valley Film Commission, thousands of local extras, crew and vendors were hired for “Poker Face,” which began filming in April. It was largely completed in mid-August, through some minor work continued into the fall after the production moved on to film in New Mexico and Los Angeles. The series was based out of Newburgh’s Umbra studios and filmed in Dutchess, Orange, Ulster and Putnam counties, the commission said.

The series was created by Rian Johnson, writer and director of “Knives Out” and “Looper,” and focuses on Lyonne, known for Netflix’s “Russian Doll” and “Orange is the New Black,” who stars as Charlie Cale, a detective, Adrian Brody says in the trailer, who has “a gift for always knowing the truth.”

Brody is among a lengthy list of well-known Hollywood names who play roles on the show, many of whom filmed locally. Lil Rel Howery is another who is also featured in the trailer.
