Connecticut Eyes Oct. 7 As Date For Synchronized Online Gambling, Sports Betting Launch

Things are moving fast in the Nutmeg State.

Just last week, the Governor’s Office announced that it had received approval for the new tribal gaming compacts from the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the Department of the Interior. With that final bit of red tape out of the way, word at the time was that the launch would come some time next month.

Today, that estimate got a lot more specific. Local news outlet Eyewitness News managed to speak to the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Paul Mounds about it. He said: We have been in close conversations with all the partners – the two tribal nations and the Connecticut Lottery. We are now focused on October 7th. That will be the full launch of online betting here in the state of Connecticut. “Online betting” is an ambiguous phrase which can either refer to sports betting only, or online gambling more generally. However, a separate statement obtained from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe makes it clear that they expect this to be the full package, including online casino. Who’s who in Connecticut gambling expansion?

The Mashantucket Pequot own and operate Foxwoods Resort Casino and have partnered with DraftKings for both sports betting and online casino in Connecticut . They and the Mohegan Tribe hold a duopoly on casino gaming in the state.

The latter have partnered with FanDuel , though they also have already expanded their Mohegan Sun Casino brand into the online space in other states. They will have to choose one or the other brand in Connecticut, since only one skin is allowed per license.

Meanwhile, the Connecticut Lottery has obtained the right to conduct retail and online sports betting in CT , plus limited iLottery operations. Their partner for sports betting will be Rush Street Interactive, using its older PlaySugarHouse brand, as revealed earlier this week .
