Data show the Nutmeg State generated more online casino revenue in its first year of operation than any other state, except Pennsylvania. Tax revenue totaled $35.2 million. The Connecticut online casino gaming market grossed $195.8 million in its first full year of operations, making it the second-best start among five states that report separate revenue for the vertical.
Data from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (CDCP) also show the state’s online casino revenue per capita dwarfed its four rivals — Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. It should be noted that Michigan is not included in this comparison, since the state regulator does not separate online poker revenue from casino revenue.
Both are likely because of a combination of factors, including: Connecticut’s population — it ranked 10th following the 2010 US Census, with 3.6 million residents
The state’s proximity to New York City and Boston, where online casino gaming is illegal
Its late launch for online casino gaming when there could have been more interest
Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun are among the largest casinos in the US and the world.
