Eddie Jordan wins backing from poker tycoon Vikrant Bhargava for Playtech bid

Eddie Jordan’s consortium was given more time to come up with a counterbid after Playtech postponed a meeting with shareholders Formula One tycoon Eddie Jordan has won the financial backing of one of the UK’s wealthiest gambling tycoons in his bid for the online tech provider Playtech.

Vikrant Bhargava, an Indian-born British businessman who co-founded online casino and poker operator PartyGaming, is understood to have committed to part-financing Jordan’s gaming outfit JKO Play. He reportedly has a net worth close to £500 million.

Last week, Jordan’s consortium was given more time to come up with a £3 billion counter-bid after Playtech postponed a shareholder meeting required to approve a 680p-a-share offer launched in October by Aristocrat Leisure, an Australian gambling operator. Playtech has postponed the meeting until February 2.
