Luton Is Next Up On The Resurgent 2021 GUKPT

Vikrum Mehta: reigning GUKPT Luton champion The Grosvenor G Casino , Luton is the venue for the latest stop on the 2021 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) . This season’s tour, the first since COVID-19 curtailed the 2020 edition last February, has put up some mightily impressive figures. PokerNews expects that trend to continue in Luton.

Although Luton is not the most glamorous city in the United Kingdom, it is a hotbed for live poker. The GUKPT has visited the place made famous for producing hats since the tour’s inception in 2007. Some of the UK’s best poker talent have left Luton with the title of GUKPT champion over the years.

Season 2 saw a then relatively unknown Sam Trickett march on to victory. Tricket banked £109,050 that day, a result that was the catalyst for his illustrious career.

Richard Gryko , Neil Channing , Charles Chattha , and Jamie “Boz” O’Connor are former GUKPT Luton champions. As are the likes of John Eames , and Neil McFayden . Amazingly, Driton Haxhaij has triumphed twice: once in Season 7 and again in Season 10.

Vikrum Mehta (lead image) is the reigning champion. Mehta outlasted 306 opponents in 2019 and turned his £1,110 investment into an impressive £83,590 after defeating Andrew “Stato_1” Hulme heads-up for the title.

PokerNews expect Mehta to be on the ground attempting to defend his title. He goes into the Main Event full of confidence having finished second in the recent £400 buy-in Grosvenor 30/30 Series for £22,900 Past winners of the GUKPT Luton Main Event
