With online sports betting likely coming to the Bay State within months, online casino gaming and online poker could be close behind. Massachusetts is poised to become the 36th US state to allow online and retail sports betting.

If conventional thinking on expanded iGaming plays out in the Bay State, with the launch of online sports betting preceding online casino gaming and online poker, state lawmakers’ new compromise bill could prove pivotal.

With about 7 million residents, Massachusetts is the 15th-largest US state in population. It would become the fourth-largest state for online poker if it were legalized today — after Pennsylvania (13 million residents), Michigan (10 million), and New Jersey (9.3 million).
