The $100,000 guaranteed Welcome Event at the new online poker room, WPT Global , has become extremely valuable for players.
Boasting yet another six-figure in guarantees for a buy-in of just $110, the tournament appears to have fallen short of its target by a considerable margin causing a huge overlay.
The tournament ran as a multi-flight event, with Day 1s scattered throughout June. Players had the option to play multiple Day 1s and carry their best stack forward to Day 2. 20% from each flight advanced to Day 2, and 18 flights were hosted, with the last one running yesterday. The tournament needed 1000 entries to cover the guarantee.
While the exact number of participants is unknown, based on the number of players that made it to Day 2 (115 players advanced to the final Day), PRO estimates that the tournament attracted around 580 entries across all its starting flights. If that number is accurate, the tournament fell short by at least $40,000.
