The 975-entry field in the Card Player Poker Tour Venetian $2,500 main event is down to its final 15 players and Tibor Nagygyoergy has the inside track to the $417,004 first-place prize as he brings a sizable chip lead into the third and final day of the event.
The remaining players will return Sunday at 11 a.m. to play down to a winner and will return to blinds of 30,000-60,000 with a 60,000 big blind ante. Levels will last 60 minutes until heads-up play, at which point levels will be cut in half. Everybody is guaranteed a cash of at least $20,850.
The Hungarian chip leader is returning with a 5,680,000-chip stack and is the only player even remotely close to 100 big blinds. Kevin O’Donnell is his closest competitor and will start Sunday with 4,750,000. The only other player above the 4 million-chip mark is Ezeqiel Waigel, who will start the day third in chips with 4,120,000. To start Sunday, Waigel has positional advantage on the chip leader, sitting on his direct left.
Other notables to make the final day include World Series of Poker bracelet winner and World Poker Tour Champion Keven Stammen, who has more than $6 million in career tournament earnings, recent WSOP Online bracelet winner Justin Saliba, and young up-and-coming pro Michael Rossitto, who already has accumulated a resume worth seven-figures and is still in his 20s. German Fabian Gumz also has more than $1 million in career tournament earnings.
Day 2 kicked off at 11 a.m. Saturday morning with 163 players hoping to at least finish in the top 99 to make the money. All of those players were chasing Donovan Dean, who started the day as the chip leader and stayed near the top of the pack for most of the day and comes back with 3,265,000 in chips Sunday.
It was Dean himself who burst the bubble in the third level of the day when he bet all three streets with top pair, including a river shove, and got his opponent to call off with second pair.
