GGPoker Blocks SharkScope, Launches Tournament Honours

GGPoker’s recent decision to restrict tournament results has stirred debate in the online poker community. Published Sep 11, 2023 “GGPoker made this decision to prevent players from targeting others with a poor tournament record that they may consider ‘weaker’. This is part of our ongoing efforts to protect and improve poker ecology.” GGPoker has decided to prohibit public tournament databases such as SharkScope from tracking and displaying tournament results on its platform. Such a move has been taken to protect “weaker players,” the operator says.

The move is thought to have been implemented on September 1, and new tournament results are no longer being tracked and displayed on SharkScope.

Additionally, GGPoker has introduced a new feature named “Tournament Honours.” This feature highlights notable accomplishments of players within the tournament, including distinctions such as “Top 10 Biggest Players,” “Top 10 Most Appearances at Final Table,” and “Top 10 Recent Winners.”

While the timing of this feature’s launch coincides with the ban on SharkScope, GGPoker maintains that the two actions are unrelated.

SharkScope, a long-standing and widely-used database of online poker tournament results, took to social media to confirm the news that GGPoker has ceased allowing the platform to track and display its tournament results.

This decision has provoked strong reactions , particularly from dedicated SharkScope users who have come to rely on the platform as a useful tool for tracking their performance and assessing their opponents.

“GGPoker made this decision to prevent players from targeting others with a poor tournament record that they may consider ‘weaker,’” GGPoker issued a statement to PRO. “This is part of our ongoing efforts to protect and improve poker ecology.”
