Several studies suggest that online gaming has proven to be a great way to relieve stress, especially during the COVID imposed lockdowns. As the world grapples with unprecedented challenges presented due to the novel Coronavirus disease, people especially adolescents and youth are restless and on the edge. Within a matter of a few months, everything went online- identity, entertainment, work, recreation. In the desolate COVID climate, it came as no surprise that people turned to online games among other recreations for some semblance of relief. In this time of duress, where studies, jobs, life, career, friends, everything seems to be stuck in the second gear and we want to look for ways to pass our idle time and safely socialise at home. While we were confined to the four walls of our homes, playing online games helped us break the monotony and interact with others on one platform. During the pan India lockdowns, around 35 per cent higher usage has been observed in multiplayer modes in comparison with single-user modes, according to a study. People, mostly in the age bracket of 18-35 resort to playing games online as an escape from reality for that period of time.
