What GGPoker’s WSOP Ontario Launch Means for Online Poker’s Most Important Partnership

It is GG’s first North American market, and first segregated market launch; for WSOP, it is its first ever non-US online poker debut. Six months since the first regulated online poker room went live in Ontario, and over seven months after it secured its igaming license, WSOP Ontario Powered by GGPoker has launched segregated real money online poker in the province.

It marks the sixth online poker room, and fourth distinct player pool, in Canada’s largest province since the market opened. It is the last remaining Ontario online poker app to move out of the grey market limbo status and become a fully licensed operator.

The debut represents many firsts. For GGPoker, it is its first toe-tip into the North American market, after flirting with the idea for a while . It is also its first-ever launch in a segregated market. For WSOP, it is its first significant real money online poker launch outside the United States.

And for the pair, it represents a further deepening of ties, which only started in 2020 with online satellites and now represents a partnership so tight that it is hard to know where one stops and the other begins.
